This is the RLSS UK National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches (NRASTC) Renewal - a one-day course for qualified swim teachers, coaches, and instructors whose NRASTC is due to expire.

The renewal includes a full assessment of knowledge and skills by an independent RLSS UK assessor. You'll refresh your supervision, rescue, CPR, and first aid skills and leave with a re-certified NRASTC valid for another 2 years — ready to continue teaching safely.

Who this is for

  • Swimming teachers and assistant teachers with a current NRASTC
  • Swim coaches and club volunteers
  • Aqua-aerobics instructors
  • School staff supporting swimming lessons
  • Private aquatic instructors
  • Anyone whose NRASTC is within its 2-year validity window

What's refreshed & assessed

  • The Teacher, Swimming Pool & Class Management
  • In-water swimming pool rescue skills
  • Intervention & emergency action plans
  • CPR, AED and First Aid
  • Practical water-based skills demonstration
  • Independent RLSS UK assessment

Before you book

Entry requirements

You must hold a current, in-date NRASTC (or NRASTC LIGHT) to attend. Expired awards cannot be renewed — a full course is required instead.

You'll also need to be able to:

  • Swim 50m on front and back
  • Be confident in deep water
  • Surface-dive to the deepest part of the pool (1.85m at this venue)
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Climb out unaided (where venue design permits)

CPD evidence required

RLSS UK requires 6 hours of Continued Professional Development within the two years since your previous assessment, covering:

  • Teacher, Pool & Class Management (min 2 hrs)
  • In-water pool rescue skills (min 2 hrs)
  • CPR, AED & First Aid (min 2 hrs)

What to bring

  • Swimwear & towel (bring two if preferred)
  • T-shirt/shorts to wear in the pool
  • Notebook & pen
  • Water bottle & snacks
  • Photo ID (Driving License or Passport)
  • Your current NRASTC certificate
  • CPD evidence / log
Important information: Full attendance is required. Limited spaces to ensure personalised training. Please arrive 10 minutes early for registration.

Exact course timings will be confirmed closer to the date once we've heard back from the assessor — the day may finish earlier than 17:00.

If you have any accessibility, medical, or learning needs, please tell us so we can support you.
