RLSS UK Qualifications

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the UK’s industry-standard lifeguard qualification, awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).

This intensive five-day course prepares you to supervise swimming pools safely and respond confidently to emergencies. Training is delivered by experienced RLSS Trainers and Assessors with real-world poolside expertise and covers pool rescue skills, lifeguarding theory, CPR, and first aid.

The NPLQ is internationally recognised and widely accepted by leisure centres, schools, clubs, and aquatic employers across the UK and Ireland.

Before you book

Entry requirements

Candidates must be 16+ on the final day of the course and be able to:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in under 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously (front and back)
  • Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool (2.00m at this venue)
  • Climb out of the pool unaided (where venue design permits)

What to bring

  • Swimwear and towel (two if preferred)
  • T-shirt/shorts to wear in the pool
  • Notebook and pen
  • Water bottle, lunch, and snacks
  • Photo ID (driving licence or passport)

  • Free parking available
Important information: Full attendance is required across all five days. Spaces are limited to keep training personalised. Please arrive 10 minutes early for registration.
